Vape 101: Nicotine vs SaltNic

What’s the difference between SaltNic vs Freebase Nicotine?

To explain the difference between SaltNic vs Freebase Nicotine we have to dig a bit deeper. As we all known, Nicotine is a highly addictive chemical. It can be find traditionally in tobacco smoke. Since 1960’s the tobacco companies decided to “enrich” the cigarettes with ammonia to increase the potency of the nicotine. The additive changed the natural state of nicotine to Freebase Nicotine and made it more potent. Basically it changed the nicotine in the leaves to be more easy to absorb. And to make the cigarettes more addictive.

But what is SaltNic?

SaltNic

The natural state of nicotine in the tobacco leaves is Nicotine Salts. SaltNic is a more stable, less active chemical than the freebase nicotine. Although to be able to use it in Vape devices, the actual process of making the SaltNic involves benzoic acid. The use of this acidic additive makes couple of changes to the original form:

  • This helps the nicotine salts to vaporize at lower temperatures.
  • By lowering the pH levels it makes the throat hit smoother too.
  • And at the end of the chemical reaction the nicotine in the salts is more active, just like with freebase form.

So what’s the Conclusion?

The difference is the chemistry. Because of this the two different kind of nicotine needs two different kind of devices. To be honest there is no better or worse – it is personal preference at the end. But here are some of the differences as we know of:

  • Because the SaltNic needs lower Voltage do vaporize, a small device is enough. these devices are more sleek, the batteries are inbuilt and the vapor production is minimal. While the regular freebase needs a tank and a mod to create the same strength of nicotine.
  • The throat hit is smoother on higher nic levels, than using freebase. A SaltNic juice on 25 level is smooth, but to vape 25 on a tank – it is hurtful.
  • Nicotine Salts absorption rate is more potent, but still not as strong as a regular cigarette. This can be overwhelming for some people.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter which nicotine you choose. The only important thing is to choose the right amount that will satisfy your cravings.
